I’m in awe of how us humans have learned to adapt to nature so well that we can now control the temperature pretty much everywhere we are. It’s remarkable. On these trips I also learned that we have the ability to adapt and thrive in really uncomfortable situations. The safety procedures and the skills were actually the easy part. Most all of us can learn how to layer clothing, build a fire, work together, etc., but the harder skill set is all internal.
My career has been wide ranging, but the core of adventure and human growth has always held steady. After college I spent over 600 days as a wilderness therapy guide and led groups of struggling young men up mountains, down rivers, and across frozen lakes. Along the way I absorbed and learned a ton about the process of mentoring and what it means to be a man in our culture today.
This weekend men's workshop is for high-level men's work practitioners and initiated men to deepen their facilitation skills and become powerful leaders of men's groups and workshops. Experience in our Open Source or other men's programs is helpful but not necessary. Experience with deep inner work, group process, and somatic healing modalities are also great prior experiences that will allow you to dive right in. This weekend is the prerequisite to assist at our Evryman Open Source Retreats and Expeditions. If you are called to lead, for yourself, your family, and specifically in the community of men, this training is for you.
The workshop is a deep dive into both leading and experiencing somatic and emotional transformation while being supported and challenged by Owen Marcus, Brad Golphenee, and a few other senior community members. Where our Open Source weekends involve outdoor and social elements, this weekend will be an intensive and consistent exploration of how far our protocols can take us. There is a cap of 24 participants and this large group will be split into 2 groups of 12 for the majority of the weekend. Each man will have ample time to facilitate the rest of the group, ask questions, and dive into his own personal growth. It is a very intense and beautiful weekend.
Owen Marcus dove into men’s work in 1995 because he wanted more from life. In 2005, he wanted more from men’s work, so he began developing what became Evryman’s unique approach. Owen is an author, blogger, speaker, coach and trainer for men’s leadership. He lives in the forest of North Idaho traveling to teach men and couples what they should have been taught. He only discovered the Evryman approach because he couldn’t do what he was taught — being dyslexic has its advantages.
Brad has been involved with Mens Groups since 2008 and has professionally facilitated men’s workshops since 2012. Education and training includes a BS/BA degree from the University of Denver in Speech Communication and Marketing, work with The Garden Company, The Mankind Project, The Four Winds Society, and the Somatic Experience Institute. Brad’s Men’s Group was featured in a documentary film “About Men” that documents men in a formal “Men’s Group” setting. Brad holds a foundational belief that men are reframing the definition of what it is to be a man in today’s world.
